Installation

Evening guys Any advice on best course of action on the following system. A potential new client has asked us to quote for a bit of an upgrade.

They are a large church and parish hall that has an old 4 zone gent 3260 installed and Gent 17841-01 detectors. They want to upgrade the panel without upgrading the existing detectors if at all possible and they want to ensure that 4 x new zones can be added within the next couple of years for a new planned extension. The last thing I want to do is specify something that is on the verge of being obsolete. Does anyone know if Gent still make/supply the Xenex panel and do they still make the detectors to match (the same ones as used on the 3260 - Code 17841-01) Or can i add any other type of more readily available detector to the new zones that will be easier to find? I have seen another system while visiting someones office where gent detectors were on a c-tec MFP but I didnt think that that would have worked. Any advice guys?

Thanks in advance. What make and age is the addressable panel pictured? It's running Apollo kit, I'd guess from memory it's been in at least 13 years, but is playing up a bit and the query is whether to replace There are also these ancient Gent conventionals (can't remember the model number) with a load of custom interfaces/relays to dampers and a Chubb Controlmaster 108 (rebadged panel, but can't remember whose!) I can post stuff again!!!1 - On a recent installation job, I was helped out by a temporary assistant up in the attic space.

Did rather well fixing that fire alarm cable. (aka - this forum needs more Internet memes. And yes, to be correct, I know the 'Impact' text needs a bold black outline border, but my image editing software doesn`t support that so it`l have to do like this) Unfourtunately later in the day she seemed more interested in chasing the end of the cables being pulled in than helping with the clips, and then buggered off somewhere for a bit and was last seen asleep on a flat roof. Ah well, that`s the trouble with these youngsters.

Too easily distracted. Attended a unit in a shopping center and found this after removing smoke sensor.

Now when i connected back correctly admittedly the device activated straight away hence the dodgy 'fix' but come on, shop staff said no-one has been out since shop unit refurb was done in Feb last year!!! My company was asked to attend as the maintenance company wanted to replace the surveyor excel panel as there was an intermittent fault on zone 1 which i found to be a snapped cable at the only callpoint in the front of the shop. A few fire alarm companies local to me I see regular pictures of there engineers etc installing emergency lighting, fire alarm isolation switches for fire alarm panels, mains interlinked detectors etc and I wondered how they legally do this work when they are altering the wiring design and are in. I way electrically qualified, ok so they are competent for fire alarm works but have no electrical qualifications or background.

Just curious as to how they do this legally issuing completion certificates, this works can be done in domestic, commercial and industrial properties. Hi, refitted a zx2e panel today on a site, installed all new optical smokes, call points, ios and sounder bases all apollo units. Auto learned system and all devices show up except 1 device saying it has bad device or two many devices on address 39, if I relearn loop it will come up with a different address having the same fault. I did change a few devices to be sure but no luck.

It keeps changing the device number that is bad or double addressed. I have 52 opt, 8 mcp, 20 sounders and 7 i/o a on 1 loop.

Loop 2 is unused, I know it should be split over the 2 loops but electricians ran cables for 1 loop!! Anyone ever come on this problem, the panel is 12 years old, why oh why did they not fork out for new panel on a full refurb of a bank!! Any help would be appricated.
